ABOUT

I am utterly passionate about using great writing to tell great stories.

After working in the arts sector for over a decade, I set up Kia Thomas Editing at the beginning of 2016. In the years since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing authors on their fabulous books. I love what I do – how could I not?

I’m also the author of A Very Sweary Dictionary, a style guide for bad language, and Wings, a literary fiction novelette that contains no swearing (but does contain some feminism and also a bird). Both of those were professionally edited, so I know how it feels to be in your shoes!

I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, which sounds fancy, doesn’t it? It is indeed pretty cool: it means I’ve proved I have the training, experience and knowledge necessary to achieve their highest level of membership.

When I’m not editing, I’m usually attempting to parent my two daughters (one of whom might be an author when she grows up, apparently; the other has grand but baffling plans for some kind of archaeology-themed restaurant), reading (obviously), or claiming that I still do yoga despite not having been to a class for several years. I live in North East England, which would be the greatest place on earth if it would just be slightly less grey.

Think I might be the editor for you? Check out my Services page to find out more about what I do.

Kia is very approachable and lovely to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again or recommend her services to others.
