I am utterly passionate about using great writing to tell great stories.

I always wanted to be a writer, but I never had anything particularly interesting to say, so after leaving a career in the arts, I decided to find a job where I could help people who did have things to say, and Kia Thomas Editing was born.

I offer editorial services to independent fiction writers. With so many people now choosing not to tread the traditional publishing path, self-publishers need to make sure their work really shines and is the best that it can be. I can help with that. I’ve edited contemporary fiction for some wonderful authors across a variety of genres (see my Portfolio page for some examples).

I also offer services to clients working in traditional publishing, working on fiction and narrative non-fiction.

I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, which sounds dead good. And indeed is dead good: it means I’ve proved I have the training, experience and knowledge necessary to achieve their highest level of membership.

When I’m not editing, I’m usually looking after my two daughters (one of whom is going to be an author when she grows up, apparently; the other is going to build a pub), reading (obviously), or claiming that I still do yoga despite not having been to a class for more than a year. I live in North East England, which would be the greatest place on earth if it would just be slightly less grey.

Think I might be the editor for you? Check out my Services page to find out more about what I do.

‘Kia is an absolute dream to work with. She is reliable, honest and professional. Perhaps most important when you are asking someone to criticise your work, she is also fun.’ – Laura Carter, author
